Fresh Halloumi at Sofia’s House

Visiting Sofia’s House for fresh halloumi, bread and other delicious food was one of the real highlights of my trip to Cyprus. Welcomed with open arms, we saw how Sofia and Andreas bake hundreds of loaves of bread a day, and run a successful business dishing up delicious home cooked food for visitors. I’ve never tasted halloumi so fresh and would happily book a flight back to Cyprus to enjoy this experience and meal all over again.

The Tomb Of Kings

What a great place to get up close and personal with the history of Cyprus. I’ve never been somewhere where you can really get into historical sites, and even climb in and around them. The Tomb Of Kings form part of the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list since the 1980s. It’s a completely fascinating and wonderful way to spend a couple of hours one morning. Visit with a guide or connect the free wifi available at reception to scan the QR codes dotted around the site for more information as you walk around.

Walking Tour Of Paphos Old Town

Aphrodite Nature Trail

If you’re short on time, there are many tours that include a visit to Aphrodite’s Baths which are wonderful to see. However, if you have a few hours one morning to spare, I’d really recommend hiking the Aphrodite Nature Trail. This moderate 7.5km/5 mile loop is one of 74 official trails around Cyprus and takes around 3 hours to complete. However, definitely allow more time if you stop and take in the views – something you should definitely do.

The trail takes you on rocky paths, through little meadows (look out for the Paphos Blue butterflies and cyclamen flowers, especially if you visit in the spring!), around cliff edges, and onto the most incredible vista looking across to the Blue Lagoon.

Top tip: Take plenty of water and some snacks and I’d recommend doing this walk as early as possible to avoid the heat. We did this walk in March and by 12 noon, it was already very warm.

Drive or take a taxi to the Baths of Aphrodite to start your walk – there is a place here to stock up on refreshments if you need.

Boat Trip To The Blue Lagoon

Fancy a dip in some of the bluest waters of Cyprus? Book yourself onto a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon. This gorgeous bay in the Akamas Peninsula has soft white sand and clear waters that shimmer in the sun. Hop on a boat from Latchi Harbour to spend a couple of hours enjoying the Blue Lagoon or go on a sunset trip where you can enjoy a swim in the sea as the sun sets.

Take Part In A Workshop

Paphos is a creative place. Just a few minutes in Paphos Old Town and you can see lots of independent businesses offering craft, art, and cooking workshops – if you want to pick up a few new skills on your holiday, this is the place to be!

One thing we got to enjoy was a mosaic workshop at The Place. We created our very own mosaic magnets – a perfect souvenir! This was after a pottery demonstration from Mr Costas who expertly showed us how to create gorgeous bowls from a grey lump of clay. 

Pottery workshops at The Place are around €10pp with the workshop lasting 2.5 – 3 hours. Mosaic workshops are €6pp!

Even if you don’t want to do a workshop, The Place is a wonderful shop full of independent crafts if you’re looking for something local to take back home with you!

Alternatively if you like cooking, why not book into a foodie workshop at Georges Alain, a patisserie in the heart of Paphos Old Town.
