About Me

Meet Emma

Welcome! My name is Emma – I’m a Yorkshire based travel blogger seeing the world around my full time job.

Hi, I’m Emma! I’m a full-time office worker based in Leeds with a serious passion for exploring the world around my 9-5.

For the past 10 years, I’ve been balancing a full-time job with a love for travel, carefully planning my budget with annual leave to enjoy cool experiences and relaxing holidays to recharge.

From leisurely city breaks to places like Seville and Lisbon, to once in a life time trips through the Rocky Mountains in Canada, I’ve made travel a priority for my annual leave.

If you also have a full-time job, this blog is all about sharing real, practical tips for working professionals who want to see more of the world without quitting their job.

Whether you’re looking for weekend getaways, long-haul holiday inspiration, or advice on where to go for your next holiday, I’ve got you covered.

If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could travel more, but I have to work” , then this space is for you. Let’s turn those travel dreams into real, doable plans.

xo Emma

I’m very lucky that I’ve been able to see the world since I was a kid. With holidays to Greece, France, Spain, Italy and Florida before I graduated, I knew travel was going to be a big part of my life. But, it was a year spent on a working holiday visa in Australia that really cemented that dream.

After living in Sydney for 12 months, with trips to Hong Kong and New Zealand tagged on, I came back to the UK with a plan to include as much travel as possible in my day to day life.

Plan A was to try my hand at becoming a travel writer. What could be better than that? Getting paid to write about travel, what a cool thing that would be. So, with that in mind, I started this blog. With a few nerves and hesitation, I hit publish on my first post on Paper Planes and Caramel Waffles.

That first post led to more articles being published and eventually helped me land a job as a Content Writer in the travel industry. What a dream come true!

10 years later, I still work in the travel industry and I absolutely love it. I’m not a travel writer but I have a full-time job that not only allows me to have a home base (I’m desperate to get a dog so there’s no way I could travel full-time) and a routine in beautiful Yorkshire, it also gives me a regular wage and annual leave to see the world. With that annual leave, and the luxury of being able to enjoy disposable income for travel, I’ve been able to travel to places like Canada, Portugal, Thailand, Mallorca, and Greece over the last decade.

For me it’s not about squeezing travel into every day of annual leave I have available, it’s about prioritising the experiences I want to enjoy when travelling. Whether that’s staying in a specific hotel, or saying yes to a once in a lifetime experience, or going back to a city I love just to eat, drink, and relax for a few days. Many of my favourite holidays include time where I can enjoy the outdoors, relax in a good coffee shops and enjoy a destination’s culture through good food and fun experiences.

So come and join me as I write about my adventures both from around the UK and Europe and long-haul holidays around the world. If you work in a full-time job, just like me, hopefully I can help you do the same whether you’re after a holiday on a Greek Island, a city break in Spain, or a 2-week adventure further afield.
