There’s one thing I love about slow travel, and that’s having time to pretend like you live in the place you’re visiting. For me, that means finding good coffee shops wherever I visit. Now, I’m not saying I’m a coffee aficionado, far from it. But I like a good coffee shop, somewhere where the service is good, where you can imagine spending a couple of hours one morning with a good book, or where you can get a good snack with a boost of caffeine.
Palma is a city I love but not somewhere I’ve associated with a burgeoning independent coffee scene before. That was until my visit last summer where pockets of time before catching the train to Soller and a few free hours one morning, were spent hunting down Palma coffee shops that I think you should go pay a visit to. There’s also a couple on this list that I’m definitely going to visit next time.
So, if you want to get a latte, mocha, or shot of espresso in Palma, here are some of the best coffee shops in Palma de Mallorca for you to try out on your holiday.
Here’s 5 Of The Best Coffee Shops In Palma: The Tried and Tested
Surry Hills Coffee
Surry Hills Coffee was my favourite coffee shop I visited in Palma. Inspired by the trendy area of Surrey Hills in Sydney, Australia and founded in Buenos Aires in Argentina, Surry Hills Coffee is a specialty Australian brunch and coffee shop that’s part of 100 of the World’s Best Coffee Shops, so you know you’re going to get a good coffee here!
It’s also committed to working with local producers, you can expect the freshest ingredients if you grab coffee, breakfast or brunch here with the aim of bringing the Aussie vibes to sunny Spain.
And, tucked around a quiet sunlit corner, with high energy once you step through the door, they certainly achieve that fun-in-the-sun Australian atmosphere. We took a slow walk there from our hotel one hot morning – it was only around 9am but already around 27 degrees. With that in mind, we ordered a round of iced coffee to go but wished we’d had time to sit in and soak up the atmosphere.
We were there fairly early but the place was busy with plenty of people already enjoying breakfast – the french toast, banana bread, and salmon and feta caught my eye for next time!
Surrey Hills Coffee Address: C. del Carme, 12, Centre, 07003 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
Surrey Hills Coffee Opening Hours: Monday to Friday – 8am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday – 9am to 3pm
HOTTO
If you’re a real coffee nerd, and I mean that in the nicest way, HOTTO is the place for you. Sister brand to Surry Hills, HOTTO is an espresso and brew bar and also a coffee school and micro roastery inspired by the Japanese city of Tokyo.
Inside, the interior is clean and simple with a big island in the middle of the coffee shop and plenty of bar seating at the window – perfect for people watching.
Peruse their menu which includes your classic flat white, latte, and cortado but you can also enjoy a signature cold brew, iced chai latte or cortado. I went for an iced chai latte and sat in the window overlooking Plaça de Raimundo Clar and it was just the most peaceful, calm place. Although initially I found it a bit intimidating with the amount of specialty coffee on offer, it’s the place I’d come back to if I needed an hour of quiet, away from the busy streets of Palma. Next time I visit, hopefully I know a bit more about coffee so I can confidently order one of their specialty blends and brews.
HOTTO Address: Plaça de Raimundo Clar, 12, Local 3, Centre, 07002 Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain
HOTTO Opening Hours: Thursday to Monday – 9am to 3pm, Tuesday and Wednesday – Closed
Arabay Coffee
Arabay Coffee in Palma is a big space, perfect if you’re wanting to camp out for a while with a laptop to get some work done. Roasting coffee on the island since 1952 under the name Cafès Bay, Arabay Coffee opened in 2016 and has been going strong ever since.
Here not only will you find a place to get a good coffee, Arabay Coffee Also has plenty of courses available if you fancy trying to make your own coffee yourself. You could do a complete barista course if you’re thinking of setting up your own coffee shop one day or try out the latte art course if you want to make your home coffee look as pretty as a shop bought one.
This is the place you’re most likely to find a seat if you find yourself tiring as you walk between tourist sites in Palma. Definitely keep it on your list if you want to sit down with your coffee.
Arabay Coffee Address: Carrer Del Sindicat, 5, Centre, 07002 Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain
Arabay Coffee Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday – 7.30am to 8pm, Sunday – 8am to 8pm
Acco
I love a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. Somewhere that’s designed for you to grab a good coffee and go continue your strolls around whichever destination you’re in. Acco is just that, located between 2 busy streets in Palma and only big enough for around 2 people to stand and 2 people to sit at their small bar.
I’d recommend keeping Acco on your list for a time when you’re wandering between attractions in Palma, or in need of a little pick me up one warm afternoon. The service is friendly and I got the vibe they get a lot of regulars in this place, and that’s how you know somewhere’s good!
Acco Address: Carrer de l’Argenteria, 6a, Centre, 07001 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
Acco Coffee Opening Hours: Monday to Friday – 8.30am to 4pm, Saturday – 10am to 4pm, Sunday – Closed
Nano Coffee Lab
I’d spotted Nano Coffee Lab early on in my latest trip to Palma but it wasn’t until my last morning I had the chance to try it out. Tucked out of the way on a quiet street, just around the corner from Avenida Jaime III, you either come across this place by accident (which is what I did) or you know it’s here and you purposefully seek it out.
The owners, Luciano and Belen, clearly have an in depth knowledge of coffee and take pride in what they serve. After overhearing a few conversations with customers, both old and new, their passion for coffee comes across in the drinks and there’s even a 15 hour cold brew set up on display for everyone to see.
Nano Coffee Lab is small but perfectly formed, and there’s space for about 6 people to sit inside with a couple of bench seats outside in the window.
Nano Coffee Lab Address: Carrer de Can Asprer, 2, Centre, 07012 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
Nano Coffee Lab Opening Hours: Monday to Friday – 8.30am to 3pm, Saturday – 8.30am to 2pm, Sunday – Closed
Other Coffee Shops In Palma To Try Out
Fika Farina
Fika Farina is high up on my list for my next visit to Palma. This Swedish bakery and coffee shop has shelves upon shelves of fresh pastries and bakes stacked up, ready to be eaten and washed down with a coffee.
If your accommodation doesn’t include breakfast, make this your first pit stop for your first meal of the day.
Fika Farina Address: Carrer Del Sindicat, 4, Centre, 07002 Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain
Fika Farina Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday – 8am to 8pm
Rosevelvet
2 minutes around the corner from Surry Hills is Rosevelvet, another bakery and coffee shop where you can easily grab a bite to eat along with your coffee. Opened in 2014, it started as a coffee shop but the bread quickly took over and now serves fresh bakes alongside the drinks. I would’ve tried this place out on my last visit to Palma but sadly there wasn’t enough time but I’ll make a beeline for it on my next visit!
Rosevelvet Address: Carrer de Font i Monteros, 22, Centre, 07003 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
Rosevelvet Opening Hours: Monday to Friday – 8.30am to 6.30pm, Saturday and Sunday – 9am to 3pm
Batx
With 2 locations, one in central Palma and the other in the oh-so-cool area of Santa Catalina in Palma, Batx (pronounced ‘Batch’), offers a place for those looking to relax or those looking for a space to work on their laptops for a few hours – made easy with a good amount of plugs and space to sit it.
Batx Address: Carrer Arxiduc Lluís Salvador, 7, Nord, 07004 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
Batx Opening Hours: Monday to Friday – 8am to 4pm, Saturday – 9am to 1pm, Sunday – Closed.
More coffee shops in Palma that are on my list for next time I visit Mallorca include Otra, La Molienda, Mistral Coffee, the Barn and Cafe Riutort.
Do you have any other recommendations that should be on my list? I was really impressed by the amount of specialty coffee shops in Palma – making those leisurely mornings and afternoons memorable.
